Shilin Xiao received his M. S. degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 1988 and ph. D. degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU), Shanghai, China, in 2003. From 1988 to 1999, he worked with the Guilin Institute of Optical Communications and obtained the technical titles: senior engineer in 1995 and professor in 1999. Since 2000, he has joined the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks, SJTU. His major research interests include optical communications, especially optical switching and passive optical networks, optical devices and sensors. He has conducted a series of projects, such as optical switching, EDFA, optical wavelength-division multiplexing, coherent optical communication, optical fiber sensors, and all optical communications, and has published more than 90 papers in technical journals and conferences. He is currently a professor at SJTU, and a senior member of the Chinese Institute of Electronics and the Optical Society of China.
