Biography
   Ya Zhang received her B.S. degree from Tsinghua University, China in 2000, and Ph.D. degree in Information Sciences and Technology from the Pennsylvania State University in 2005. Since March 2010, she has been a specialprofessor in Department of Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Prior to that, she worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a research assistant, at University of Kansas as a tenure-track assistant professor, and at Yahoo! Labs as a search relevance scientist and a research engineer manager. Her research interest is mainly on data mining andmachine learningtechniques with applications to information retrieval, web mining, social network analysis, and multimedia information processing.

Dr. Zhang has publishedover 30 journal and conference articleswith more than 500 citations and has 2 awarded US patents. Her research is supported by multiple national and state research grants, including National Natural Science Foundation of China´╝îNational SignificantScience and Technology Projects, The High Technology Research and Development Program of China.She is also a Co-Principle Investigator in the SJTU-NUS CREATE programme supported by Singapore National Research Foundation.Dr. Zhang is a recipient of Shanghai Science and Technology Rising Star Program and Shanghai Talent Development Fund.
