Biography
     Xinyu Fan received his B.Sc. in Applied Physics (2000), M.Sc. in Optical Engineering (2003), from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (2006) from the Universityof Tokyo, Japan.In 2006, he joined NTT Laboratories, as a research scientist (lifetime employment) and got promoted to a senior position in 2011. In 2012, he joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering.    

      His research interest focuses on optical fiber sensors, fiber applications, special optical fiber, fiber devices and systems, optical information processing. He pioneered the development of phase-noise compensated optical frequency domain reflectometry (PNC-OFDR).

      Dr. Fan has published over 100 journal articles and filed 23 patents. He received “Best paper award” (2008) and “Research and developmetaward” (2011)  from NTT Laboratories, and “Academic award” (2011) from the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Enginners (IEICE), Japan. He is a member of IEEE and IEICE, and is a regular reviewer of many top journals such as IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, OSA Optics Express, and OSA Optics Letters.
