Biography

Chenglin Li is currently a Full Professor with the Department of Electronic Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

 

He received the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2007, 2009 and 2015, respectively. From 2011 to 2013, he was with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA, as a visiting Ph.D. student. Between 2015 and 2017, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS4) at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. From 2017 to 2018, he was a Senior Researcher in the Chair of Media Technology (LMT) at Technical University of Munich (TUM), Munich, Germany.

 

His current research interests include signal processing of multimedia data, multimedia communications, and machine learning, with particular focus on topics such as model predictive control and reinforcement learning-based adaptive multimedia communication systems, representation learning of non-Euclidean multimedia data (e.g., 360-degree images/videos, and point clouds), theories and applications of reinforcement learning, and distributed and federated learning for large-scale heterogeneous clusters. Within these research fields, he has published over 30 regular papers in IEEE Transactions such as IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, and has presented over 50 conference papers at the prestigious conferences such as ACM Multimedia, CVPR and ICML. He also served as an Area Chair of 2022 ACM International Conference on Multimedia. He was awarded the Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) Fellow in 2011, the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow in 2017, and the ACM Multimedia Top Paper Award in 2022. He became the PI of the Shanghai Rising-Star Program in 2020, and the PI of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2021.
