1.  Introduction of the Subject

      The Discipline has doctorate authorization of primary discipline with post-doctoral research stations. At present , it has 39 doctoral supervisors and 54 master's supervisors , of which 1 is the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 is the Yangtze River scholar Professor of The Ministry of Education ,4 are the winners of National outstanding youth science funds and 1 is the chief scientist of “973”. The discipline is based on the theories of modern communications and modern signal processing. Its major research fields include fiber communications, digital and data communications, high definition television, satellite communications, information security, wireless and personal communications, image communications, multimedia information communications, broadband network technology, multimedia signal processing, radar signal processing and so on. We have National Key Institute of Local Fiber-Optical Communication Networks and Advanced Optical Communication , National engineering research center of digital television , National Engineering Laboratory of Information Security and other scientific research bases. We have maintained close cooperation and exchanges with many domestic and foreign well-known universities and companies, building joint laboratories with famous academic institutions including the AT&T Bell laboratories of USA. We have a batch of advanced equipments for research ,development , tests and some experimental research platforms for Broadband Optical Fiber Communication Test Network, Computer Image Processing System , Information Security Attack and Defense , Review Technical Simulation environment, Which have made a number of significant achievements in scientific research including the second National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology and made outstanding contributions in the industrialization of technological production. The discipline has been listed in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University key construction disciplines of “211” Project and “985” Project. One doctoral dissertation was selected to the National "Top 100 Doctoral Thesis".

2.  Training Objectives

      Train students to get wide basic theory knowledge in information and communication. Master the development, tendency and new development frontier of the subject and other electronic relevant subjects. Have the ability to do scientific research independently and get creative research results in theory or practice. Have the ability to read the non-Chinese information skillfully. Have the ability to write and do international academic exchange. Have the ability to do the work in college education, scientific research, engineering and technology management.

3.  Educational System and Credits

      The length of PhDs is 3 or 4 years, the credits must be at least to 16 credits. Doctoral students should choose at least 1 or 2 public elective courses which are published by research institutions and not offered by first - grade subjects. 

4.  Curriculum   

Remark:

1).  PhDs of crossing disciplines who get the subject’s can select one or two .

2).  If students attend some studying aboard activities or major international academic conferences of the subject and do some academic lectures, it can be convertible to 2 credits of academic symposium.

5.  Comprehensive Assessment

     Comprehensive test of doctoral students has to be finished before second term. The test should follow the rules and programs of comprehensive assessment in ‘training rules of doctoral students in Shanghai Jiao tong University’.

6.  Opening Report

     The opening report of doctoral students should be finished before the first half of third term. The reading amount of literature should reach 50 to 100 or even more.

8.  Paper Publishing 

     Doctoral students should reach the publishing requirement of academic paper set by the university and the institute. It should be follow the relevant documents.

9.  Something Else

     The training plan should be executed from the academic doctoral students of 2011.
